As we start off the new year, many would describe the past year as one of chaos or any of the other list of synonyms: crisis, confusion, mayhem, disaster, pandemonium, havoc, disruption, commotion, and the list goes on and on. As the Romans might have said, it was an “annus horribilis,” a horrible year. It was a year of one thing after another. And, most people asked the question, “Why is this happening (to me)!” In truth, chaos always brings opportunity but most of us will not open our senses to the revealing truths. As Albert Einstein noted, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” When we ask low-level questions, such as “Why is this happening,” we lose contact with our deepest potential. However, when we ask the profound questions, we begin to grow and to cross over outside of what we know. Asking the right questions, leads us to the deep consciousness where our greatness lives, just on the other side of self-imposed comfort zones.
In one of my greatest periods of being stuck, I found myself digging myself deeper and deeper into a hole. You can't begin to imagine how many disasters I was creating in my life. Nothing seemed to be going right. These disasters did not begin to turn around until one day, I realized that I was asking myself the wrong questions. I kept asking myself, “What am I doing wrong?” And, I kept getting answers to my questions but no solutions. Months and months had passed before I caught myself and realized my error. Life seems to always respond to us at the same level of our curiosity. Most often, we try to solve problems at the level of the problem. Instead of asking myself what was wrong in the situation, I started asking myself what was right? I started asking myself which opportunities were now open now so many doors had closed. I started asking myself questions like, “How can I grow from this current situation?” and “What are the gifts right now?” "What have I done right in the past?" "What evidence do I have that I can transform this situation?" When I began a new series of questions, I became unstuck and doors started opening.
This New Year presents an opening into new possibilities that the world anxiously awaits: Artistic explosions, new career opportunities, new political paradigms, original art, inventive music, deeper relationships, bolder ways of expression, and better ways of caring for the planet and for ourselves. Underneath these new ways of being, the world is waiting on YOU to bring more love, more peace, more joy creativity, more abundance, more originality. The world is waiting for those who are brave enough to walk through the limits of this stuckness.
One of the greatest ways of transforming your life and starting the year off on a new trajectory is by ASKING POWERFUL QUESTION. In the middle of chaos, the wise ones, the most creative ones, the productive and effective ones, will call out, “Where is the love in this?” “Where in the power in this?” Where is the creativity in this?” “Where is the transformation in this?” “Who am I in the middle of all this?” “Who do I get to become?” “Who do I need to be?” “What am I not seeing in this situation?” “How can I see this situation differently?”
For this new year, I wish you the best as you practice sound principles, such as asking powerful questions, that support your growth and well-being. Ask the right questions and see all the collateral brilliance, joy, love, peace and transformation that will manifest in your life and in the lives of the people around you!
